O Canada…Des plus brillants exploits

In February 2010, in excess of five thousand (5000) athletes and officials took part in the XXI Olympic Winter Games in the city of Vancouver and resort town of Whistler. The 2010 Games were the third to be hosted in Canada and the first in the province of British Columbia, with the 1976 Summer Olympics held in Montreal, Quebec and the 1988 Winter Olympic in Calgary, Alberta.

The EPG team provided initial food service advice and support to the athlete villages catering program in both the Vancouver athlete village and Whistler athlete village and were also involved in delivering event management & operations for the speed skating and figure skating competition and training venues.

Our team members played an integral role in the planning stages for food & beverage services to the two athletes villages, ultimately leading to development of the scope of works document for food & beverage services and appointment of the food & beverage services provider.

Key areas of planning in development of the scope of works included;

  • Design & décor of the main dining halls, casual dining and special event areas
  • Food & beverage program including traffic and meal projections
  • Human resources
  • Supply chain management
  • Transition from the olympic to paralympic period

Key EPG team personnel also held the venue general manager role within the Vancouver Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (VANOC) at the short track speed pkating and figure skating venues including the Pacific Coliseum Competition venue and Trout Lake and Killarney training venues.
