Eight venues….Eight countries

Despite the West Indies cricket team being the second most successful team in the history of the ICC Cricket World Cup, 2007 marked the first time the event was held in the Caribbean. Played across eight (8) competition venues and eight (8) countries, sixteen (16) teams competed in the event with Australia defeating Sri Lanka in the final.

The EPG team provided event management services to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 Organising Committee for three (3) of the competition venues and also provided event overlay & infrastructure services to the official event merchandiser. Large events spanning multiple venues always provide unique challenges when they are located across a city or region, however with this event, we faced unique challenges in that competition venues spread acrossthe multiple island nations that make up the West Indies.

Integration between event organisers and the incumbent venues was pivotal in ensuring event success. In our role as venue managers, we acted as the senior representative for the Cricket World Cup Organising Committee at each of these venues, responsible for the finalisation of venue use agreements, managing the integration of match day operations and ensuring venues adhered to their agreed deliverables as host.

The venue management team also liaised with all programme managers on match day to oversee implementation of agreed operational procedures and ensured integration existed between programme areas. Our tema led a cross functional team that engaged the incumbent venue site manager, design teams, relevant local authorities and key stakeholders to ensure event overlay & infrastructure was installed as agreed and match operations were delivered in line with the event operational plan. Our planning of the event closure phase also ensured a smooth reinstatement of the venues at the conclusion of the tournament period.

In providing services to the official event merchandiser, we operated in eight (8) countries and was responsible for event overlay & infrastructure and event logistics at all sites. Operating logistics centres and freight forwarding operations across multiple venues and countries ensured a dynamic logistics environment and our team was responsible for activities such as the confirmation of space allocation at each venue, fit-out and installation of merchandise store infrastructure, recruitment and management of operational crews and consolidation and freight forwarding of equipment in order for it to be used at multiple venues. This activity culminated in the consolidation of equipment and resources at the Barbados World Cup Final between Australia and Sri Lanka.
