Games of the XXVII Olympiad – Sydney 2000 Summer Olympics

The winner is…Sydney

Labelled the best games ever by then IOC president, Juan Antonio Samaranch, the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games continues to be a benchmark for host cities and event organisers when staging major sporting events. 10,500+ athletes competed in twenty-eight (28) sports at the games, which was only the second time the games have been held in the souther hemisphere since the re-birth of the Olympic movement by Baron Pierre de Coubertin in 1894 when he formed the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

EPG team personnel were instrumental during the operational planning, operational readiness and event delivery phases of games time villages, integrating with the organising committee operational and logistics teams to deliver arguably the best ever olympic village and first ever media village.

Our team played an integral role in athlete village operations at both the Olympic village near Sydney Olympic Park and the media village in Lidcombe. Key activities included the planning and implementation of the village move-in, transition to Paralympic and move-out phases, associated workforce planning & recruitment and delivery of games time event logistics operations coordinated from the village support operations command centre at each village. EPG personnel managed the planning and implementation of event overlay & infrastructure for both villages and also managed the master delivery schedule (MDS) and vendor certification schemes during the operational period.

EPG personnel also had significant input into the design and operational planning for hospitality venues in the media village, which catered for over six thousand (6000+) guests and took on management roles within these venues during the games time operational period. EPG personnel also played keyroles across the Sydney games in roles as venue operations managers and overlay managers.
