With over £2 billion to spend on infrastructure in Scotland’s largest city, the Glasgow Commonwealth Games were the largest multi-sport event ever held in Scotland.

EPG provided strategic planning advice to the Local Organising Committee (LOC) senior management team in key areas such as; event overlay and infrastructure cost planning, input into lessons learned on previous projects and event security and safety, including the provision of health and safety advice.

EPG completed three key activities at the Glasgow 2014 Games that spanned the event life cycle from the strategic planning phase through to event delivery and event closure. In the strategic planning phase, EPG were engaged in two key concept operations activities:

  • Development and authoring of the Spector Services (SPS) Strategic Plan and;
  • Completion of an executive level Security Strategy Review.

EPG were then able to implement key recommendations from its work done on the Security Strategy Review, from the operational planning through to event delivery phase, when contracted as the Physical Security Systems (PSS) Integrator.

With spectator services being the largest most visible workforce and often acknowledged as the ‘Face of the Games’, EPG utilised its in-house expertise to assist the organising committee in defining the strategic approach for this critical function. In developing the SPS, we also contributed to the planning of the following spectator service deliverables:

  • Management Structure
  • Workforce Plan
  • Venue & Public Domain Crowd Safety Plan
  • Service Delivery Principle & Methodologies
  • Operating Requirements
  • Programme Budget & Roadmap
